For a while now, we’ve been thinking about how to experience this vast and remote winter wonderland on skis, without spending a fortune on helicopters. How do we explore various spots, ski down some peaks, without hauling an entire expedition or sleeping on a cramped boat? Well, we’ve found the answer! We’ve discovered a way to enjoy an efficient ski-touring trip deep into Greenland’s wilderness while staying comfortably in a regular house 😉.
In April 2025, we will head to western Greenland, where we will stay in a small village at a cozy hotel, living among locals. Each day, we’ll take a speedboat into the fjords to chase our ski-touring goals. Sounds good? Keep reading!
We’ll embark on six days of ski-touring, with each day’s adventure beginning at sea level, where glaciers often start. Using our speedboat, we’ll navigate the fjords of Greenland’s western coast efficiently, targeting peaks covered in eternal ice. Our expedition will be led by a certified IFMGA/IVBV mountain guide along with a Polish team leader.

ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSPORTATION
- Getting to Greenland isn’t short or cheap. You’ll first fly to Nuuk with two layovers, then catch a local flight to Maniitsoq. The total cost of flights is around 5-6k PLN.
- There are no roads in Greenland, so we’ll rely on boats for transport (no helicopters needed!).
- We’ll stay at a small hotel in the village of Maniitsoq on a tiny island off the west coast of Greenland. Rooms will be double occupancy with separate beds, and breakfast will be served at the hotel.
- Each day, we’ll take our speedboat for ski-touring adventures across fjords that stretch tens of kilometers.
- For more information, check the TRIP PROGRAM tab
OFF PISTE – Terrain Details:
- Each day, we’ll take the speedboat from the hotel into the fjords, where we’ll start our climbs
- We’ll begin at sea level and ascend peaks ranging from 800 to 1200 meters above sea level
- Daily vertical drops will range between 800 – 1500 meters
- Our terrain will be around the island where we’ll be staying, with many neighboring islands and fjords
- The area is mostly glaciated, with highly variable snow conditions
Difficulty Level: 7/10
- This trip is for intermediate to advanced ski mountaineers and splitboarders. Beyond strong skiing and touring skills, you should know how to use crampons, harscheisen (ski crampons), ice axes, and belay techniques.
- Glaciated terrain can start at sea level in Greenland, so excellent control over your skiing and basic belaying skills are essential.
Trip Profile
- We’ll be touring (skiing uphill with skins), and sometimes we’ll need harscheisen, ropes, crampons, and ice axes.
SAFETY
- Licensed IFMGA/UIAGM mountain guide will ensure our safety throughout the trip
- The guide will make the final decision on daily mountain activities based on conditions
- We’ll be in Arctic terrain, surrounded by water, where extreme weather and very low wind chill temperatures are common
- Participants must bring appropriate equipment and clothing. A gear list will be published soon.
- The trip will be overseen by a Polish team leader
